UK's First Mobile Public Floating Sauna to open at Tapnell Farm

17th October 2024

Tapnell Farm, Isle of Wight – Ex-Radio 1 DJ and Camp Bestival co-founders, Rob and Josie da Bank will be opening the UK’s first mobile public floating sauna on the Isle of Wight next month as part of their Slomo Winter Warmer offering at Tapnell Farm.

Bringing a Scandinavian-inspired wellness experience to the island, the Slomo Winter Warmer contrast therapy hub opening on the 7 November, will also feature two wood-fired Nordic saunas with views over the lake, a 7ft diameter ice-cold plunge tank for six people and a hygge inspired lounging area complete with fire pit. Guests can also enjoy optional extras like the Himalayan salt and rose body scrubs or indulge in thermal massages. The wild spa is fully equipped with showers, changing areas and offers free parking.

In celebration of the opening, Root2Rise will be hosting a one-off Wim Hof Method Fundamentals Workshop at Tapnell on Saturday 9 November. The five-hour workshop will focus on the three pillars of the Wim Hof Method: Breathing Technique, Cold Exposure and Commitment, teaching participants how to utilise oxygen and cold exposure to optimise body and mind to help you rise and thrive.

Slomo Floating

Relax, Rejuvenate and Reconnect...

DJ and wellness advocate Rob da Bank shared his excitement, saying: "Josie and I and our crack team of sauna aficionados have been beavering away on this project for over a year now and we’re in the final stages of finishing our floating sauna. We cannot wait for a winter of floating whilst steaming, dipping in the lake and our awesome six-person ice bath. Contrast therapy at its finest!"

Upon hearing the news of the Isle of Wight being home to the UK’s first floating mobile sauna, Richard Quigley MP commented, “The Island is great at firsts and it's another moment of pride for us to have the first floating sauna. Everything that puts the Island on the map is a success. Good luck to Rob and his team."

Slomo’s wellness wild spas are designed to help people relax, rejuvenate, and reconnect—away from the pressures of daily life. With its emphasis on unplugging from the digital world, Slomo invites guests to immerse themselves in an experience that fosters well-being and mindfulness.

Contrast therapy has gained recent popularity in the UK, celebrated for its wide-ranging health benefits including improved circulation, reduced stress, enhanced immune function and mood elevation. Regular use of saunas and ice baths is also linked to lower blood pressure, reduced joint pain, and better overall physical and mental health.

Originally launched as Slow Motion, Slomo was founded by Rob and Josie Da Bank as a way to combat the stresses of modern life. With permanent sauna and ice bath locations across the UK—including Compton Bay—alongside pop-up appearances at festivals, wellness retreats, and events, Slomo offers a holistic approach to relaxation through yoga, meditation and sleep workshops. It’s all about taking a step back, even if only for a brief moment.
