FAQ's for CAMP TAPNELL

Is Camp Tapnell open all year?

The containers are open for bookings from the beginning of May to the beginning of October. During school holidays, they are available throughout the week. Outside of school holidays, the containers are primarily used for school trips and are only open for bookings on weekends.

Chalets are open for booking from March to November, During school holidays, they are available throughout the week. Outside of school holidays from May, the chalets are primarily used for school trips and are only open for bookings on weekends.

What is the minimum amount of nights I can book for?

When booking the containers, you can check in any day and for however many nights you like during any month when they are open.

When booking the chalets During our quieter ‘Off Peak’ periods you can check in any day and for however many nights you like. During our ‘Peak’ periods (School Holidays and Bank Holidays) we offer 3 night weekend, 2 or 4 night mid-week, 5 night and 7 night stays. Please contact [email protected] to check availability.

Can I visit the accommodation before booking?

Yes, we encourage guests to schedule a tour to view the property before making a booking. This way you will be able to choose the right accommodation for you. Please contact [email protected] to arrange a viewing.

Do you offer a discount on Ferry travel to the Island?

Yes we do, with Wightlink Ferries you are now able to book directly with them on their website and still take advantage of the same discounted rate. By booking directly this will also allow you to make changes to your ticket subject to availability up to 2 hours before your departure free of charge, without needing to try and contact us to change this for you. You will need to provide them with your accommodation reference number. Once you have booked your accommodation email us on [email protected] and we will send you the link .

With Red Funnel if you email us at [email protected] with your ferry crossing details you can take advantage of our discounted rate , as an agent all amendments to any bookings will go through us and we charge a small admin fee of £12.00 per booking.

Do we need to bring our own bedding and towels?

Containers - Yes, bedding and linen are not provided for our container accommodations, so you will need to bring these with you. The only item supplied is a flat sheet.

Kindly ensure you bring all necessary items, as we have limited stock of bedding and linen on-site.

Chalets - We provide fresh linen and towels for every guest, however please remember to bring your own cot linen and cot mattress. If you require any extra towels or linen please email us to let us know, please note, there may be an additional charge.

Is the kitchen and bathroom shared for the containers? And where would we find this?

Yes, it is a shared bathroom and kitchen with hot and cold water for guests. You will find the facilities a short walk away from your container.

What is included in the shared kitchen and bathroom for the containers?

In the kitchen, you will find air fryers x2, Electric hobs x2, microwave x2, kettle x2, toaster x2, Fridge, sink first aid kit bin. Please bring all cooking utensils and equipment as we do not provide any.

In the bathroom, you will find 5 toilets for males, 5 toilets for females, 5 showers for males, 5 showers for females, Wheelchair accessible shower room, hair dryers, Basins, mirrors, a Toilet bin, toilet roll, and hand tissues. Not included - Towels, shampoo, and conditioner please bring your own.

Is there outdoor lights on at night when walking to the facilities?

There are lights on the way to the facilities, however these are on a timer and are not on at all times. Please bring torches to help you find your way.

Can we use a portable BBQ or Firepit around the containers?

No, due to a fire hazard you can not use a portable bbq or fire pit, however, a mini gas BBQ and/ or a stove is okay. There are BBQs at the chalets- please use the specific area.

Do you provide the coal for the bbq for chalets?

Yes, there will be 1 bag of charcoal, 1 firelighter and matches. More will be available to purchase from the guest hub.

How many containers and chalets are at Camp Tapnell?

Camp Tapnell has 13 containers: 4 of which are positioned as pairs with a dividing external privacy screen between them. Seven containers are dog-friendly. There are two chalets.

What do we need to bring when staying in the containers?

  • bed linen, duvets, pillows and towels
  • cooking equipment, cutlery, plates, glasses, and utensils
  • camping stove - please note there is a slab outside each unit for this
  • camping seats
  • torches and lanterns

What are the bedroom layouts? And what type of mattress do the beds have?

Containers

All of beds have memory foam mattresses for a comfortable night's sleep. All will have mattress protectors.

Up to 22nd July, the layout will consist of x4 pairs of bunks (8 singles).

From 22nd July, the layout will consist of x1 double, x2 pairs of bunks, and x1 high single

Chalets

All of our beds have memory foam mattresses for a comfortable night's sleep. All will have mattress and pillow protectors.

The rooms are made up of x3 twin rooms

Is there any parking at all the accommodation?

Yes, all of our accommodations offer free parking. Please find parking instructions for each accommodation below:

Containers - Each container has a space for one car, you will find the car park on the opposite side of the road. There is an offloading bay at the containers which you can use to unload your items.

Chalets - Each chalet has parking space for 1 / 2 cars. There are clear signs for each chalet, and we kindly ask that you park in your designated space.

Is there a deposit required?

Yes, a non-refundable deposit is required of 25% to secure your booking. Then final payment is due 4 weeks before the arrival date.

ow can I report maintenance issues?

When you are staying with us you can report via email or call the office. Text Chloe the accommodation manager out of hours.

How do I make a booking?

Bookings can be made online through our website, via phone (01983 758 729), or by visiting our office. A confirmation will be sent upon completion of the booking process.

Is there any public transport available from/close to the Farm?

We do have a seasonal bus that comes to the farm to Newport between April - September. This bus goes from Tapnell 2-4 times a day depending on the day of the month. Please contact us if you would like a timetable ahead of arrival.

The closest bus stop is in Freshwater town which is a 20 minute walk away, along a busy road. We would recommend bringing your own transport, hiring bikes, or booking Taxi’s (numbers included in the welcome pack).

Are we ok to bring our Dog?

We welcome all well behaved pets to stay at Camp Tapnell, seven on the containers are dog friendly and both chalets. As long as they are cared for, and are cleaned up after. There are dog poo bins on site, and you can also put dog poo in the general rubbish bins. Around the site and in your accommodation you will find dog poo bags. Please ensure dogs are kept on a lead when close to the accommodation units. There are plenty of fields surrounding the accommodation where your 4 legged friends can roam free.

There is an additional charge of £20 - per dog.

Dogs are also welcome in The Cow restaurant, however are not allowed in the farm park itself, you are welcome to leave them in your accommodation for short periods of time if they are well behaved and used to being left alone.

Can I buy any food on site?

There is a restaurant on site that is open for lunch and dinner on selected days. Click here for their opening times and menus.

Within Tapnell Farm Park there is also a café offering light bites and snacks. Click here for opening times of the park.

We have an onsite Farm Shop that offers a small selection local produce and supplies. Please check the opening times online during your stay.

Supermarkets and Deli’s:

We have lots of great places to buy food from on the Isle of Wight. In Freshwater (5 min drive away) there are several supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsburys and a small Coop. The town also has a butchers, bakers and fishmongers.

Do you have a noise curfew?

As we have guests staying with us from all walks of life, including families with young children, we respectfully ask that noise levels are kept to an absolute minimum between the hours of 11pm and 8am.

If you are traveling with a large group, or are planning a celebration, please contact Chloe at [email protected] to discuss further arrangements- we would suggest a cabin or one of our cottages instead. If you would like to hire the whole site for an event then you can make as much noise as you like!

Do you have any internet facilities on site?

Yes, we have free Wi-Fi access at the Farm Park and the restaurant also has free wifi. You will find it in your phone settings as _Tapnell Farm. There is no wifi at the Camp Tapnell site.

Do we get free entry into the farm park and your other attractions like the Aquapark…?

As a paying guest you are entitled to pay once for your group to enter the farm park , then the rest of your visits are complimentary, so you can come and go as many times as you like, within the opening times.

Once you have booked you will also be given a discount code for the Aquapark, Archery/ Axe throwing and Football Golf, all of these are pre-bookable online.
