If you’re not afraid of a few hours in the saddle (and several hill-starts), then the Round the Island cycle route is the ultimate ride for you. Covering 65 miles around the whole Island, this route can be completed clockwise or counter-clockwise for the most iconic Island adventure. For those looking for a leg-pumping challenge, the 53-mile Chalk Ridge Extreme covers some of the island’s steepest hills. Meanwhile, West Wight’s 7-mile trail, “In search of Jimi”, encompasses some of the Island’s most scenic viewpoints.

How to get to the Isle of Wight with (or without) a bike

Regular ferry services throughout the year make arriving at the Isle of Wight a breeze, with departure points from Lymington, Portsmouth and Southampton. Fortunately, both Wightlink and Red Funnel ferry services allow free space on board for bikes when travelling as a foot passenger. When is the best time of year for an Isle of Wight cycling holiday?

The Isle of Wight beckons for cycling holidays in all seasons, complemented by our year-round roster of attractions at Tapnell Farm. In spring and early summer, the abundance of colour and the quieter roads make for a particularly dreamlike backdrop for days wheeling around.
