Reason 2: Family-friendly beaches are everywhere

By virtue of its island design, the Isle of Wight is brimming with beautiful beaches. Coastal idylls of all shapes and sizes, these heavenly bays and quiet coves offer something for everyone. Particularly adored are the island’s golden sand beaches, which beckon to families for bucket-and-spade days on the shore. To find your perfect seaside spot, make a note of your beach-day preferences, including access, facilities, shelter and space. Only a stone’s throw from us at Tapnell Farm, Freshwater Bay is a great choice for its large sand and pebble expanse and nearby amenities. Meanwhile, Alum Bay Beach is renowned for its colourful cliffs and views of the iconic Needles.

Reason 3: You get big family days out, plus all-weather backups

For an island of humble proportions, there’s plenty to see and do during holidays on the Isle of Wight for families. A go-to destination in all seasons, it lends itself perfectly to family-friendly holidays, whether you’ve got tots or teenagers in tow. On the coast, an array of activities keeps all generations entertained, including swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing and more. Meanwhile, all over the island, a huge collection of attractions awaits whatever the weather, such as Blackgang Chine, Robin Hill Country Park, Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, and of course, our very own Tapnell Farm Park.
With so much to do, you can cherrypick your favourites and return time and time again to discover and rediscover island gems.

Reason 4: It’s the UK’s dinosaur island, and kids love it

One of the best things to do on the Isle of Wight with kids (those young in years and at heart!) is to go searching for dinosaurs. Dubbed the “Dinosaur Capital of Britain”, this historic isle once provided the perfect home for dinosaurs. Today, 125-million-year-old fossils provide evidence of this, regularly unveiled along the coastline between Compton (just a few minutes from Tapnell Farm) and Sandown. In fact, just down the road from us, you can even see real-life footprints of giants preserved in sandstone at Hannover Point. To learn more about the dinosaurs who once roamed the lands here, visit Dinosaur Isle Museum or join up with the award-winning Wight Coast Fossils for guided experiences.
